Explore Veterans Affairs served a record number of veterans here and nationally in 24 years.
The base said the visit is not a replacement for an in-person or telephone visit. But they are another way to connect.
Patients like the flexibility, Gifford said in an interview.
“I’ve done video visits myself, and I did one this afternoon,” Gifford said. “And patients find it very convenient and easy to connect with the team. …It saves a lot of time and effort. That’s the feedback we’re getting so far. is.”
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the medical center has conducted numerous virtual visits, most of them by phone.
Hospitals now have a new platform that provides video capabilities in a “modern” way, Gifford said.
“It’s expanding our capabilities,” he added. “That’s a better way.”
“We are excited to offer new ways to meet the medical needs of our patients,” Col. Michael Fraser, 88th Medical Group commander, said in a statement. “Video visits mean patients don’t have to choose between their health and other obligations. And it means that healthcare providers have more options to connect with patients in person, over the phone, or through video visits. It means getting more ways.”
Gifford said the technology is integrated with MHS Genesis’ patient portal.
Once you access the platform, you can participate in a video visit using a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera, speakers, and a reliable internet connection.
Patients will receive a reminder email 24 hours and 30 minutes before their scheduled appointment, and a reminder email and text message when it’s time to attend the appointment, the medical group said.
“Once you schedule your virtual video visit, we will send you a link,” Gifford says. “Clicking that link will start a video chat with your care team.”
Visit is also integrated with MHS Genesis, allowing providers to access patient medical records, make referrals, enroll patients in other programs and schedule follow-up appointments, Medical Group said. said.
In-person and telephone visits remain optional. Both can be scheduled by calling 88th Medical Group at 937-522-APPT (2778). This is the same number you used to schedule your video visit. In-person visits can also be booked by calling the reservation line or online through the MHS Genesis portal.
As of fall 2024, patients will be able to schedule video visits for primary care, pediatrics, and mental health care through Appointment Line. The base anticipates specialty care clinics will also offer video consultations as an option.
Gifford also expects a virtual waiting room feature, perhaps later this year.
“What we’ve seen since the pandemic is that patients want to be treated online,” he said. “Because it’s more convenient for them. And if you can make access to care more convenient, it’s a win-win for the patient and the health care team.”
