However, after an evenly matched first half, United struggled in the opening minutes of the second half when captain Bruno Fernandes received a second yellow card and was sent off from the pitch.
Wolves, under new manager Vitor Pereira, held the lead despite a tense late game, just 11 minutes after the Portugal international took the lead through Matheus Cunha’s opener.
The hosts were put to a tough test as time ran out, but they managed to hang on and Hwang Hee-chan’s 98th-minute goal ended any hopes of a comeback and snatched the three points.
As United look to rebuild under Amorim, Mail Sport’s Adam Patel finds out who has struggled and who has shined.
Manchester United suffered their third consecutive defeat in December against Molineux and Wolves.
Coach Ruben Amorim’s players were unable to take advantage and were later canceled out.
Captain Bruno Fernandes received two yellow cards and was sent off, disrupting the progress of the match.
Manchester United (3-4-2-1):
Andre Onana – 4
He made some important saves, including a great diving stop to deny Jorgen Strand Larsen, but Matheus Cunha’s goal was very special, but he can’t concede directly from a corner kick. .
Yoro Lenny – 5
He joined United’s three-man defense. He received an inadvertent instruction four minutes into the game, but things were going well until he was replaced by Anthony after the hour.
Harry Maguire – 5.5
He fought well against Stand Larsen throughout the game, but his header was deflected by the Wolves forward, but Onana saved it. Like the rest of United’s defense, he will be furious at conceding the goal.
Lisandro Martinez – 5.5
Along with Yoro and Maguire, it wasn’t too bad, but it was another game without a clean sheet. In the first half, his header from six yards was easily saved by Jose Sa, and he missed a big chance.
Lenny Yolo joined Amorim’s three-man defense and became one of the team’s bright spots.
Lisandro Martinez was forced to go to another game after failing to keep a clean sheet in defence.
Nouser Mazraoui – 6.5
He started at right wing-back and showed he can play anywhere in the system. He had a good match with Rayan Ait Nouri and played as center half when Amorim made a triple change at 1-0. Probably United’s best player on the day.
Manuel Ugarte – 5
he has to do more. They certainly had some quality players, but they struggled to get into the game and were substituted just after the hour mark, when United were looking for an equalizer.
Coby Mainu – 5.5
Another one who has more to offer. We got into some good positions but lost the ball a few times due to carelessness. Casemiro hooked off in the 64th minute.
Diogo Dalot – 6
He played on the left side and had a good shift. He saved some good shots from wide and always provided options. I should have used it more.
Amad Diallo – 5.5
They threatened, but to no avail when they had possession. He made a bad decision in a dangerous position and was substituted in the 80th minute by Alejandro Garnacho.
Koby Mainu must offer new manager more to secure a starting spot
Amad Diallo was another player who couldn’t make it on Boxing Day night.
Rasmus Hjølund has struggled to lead Manchester United’s line and on Thursday he cut an often frustrated figure.
Bruno Fernandes – 3
An unforgettable day for the United captain. It hurt his team. He was booked for a foul on Cunha in the first half and received a second yellow card at the start of the second half for knocking down Nelson Semedo. No need to have such problems when booking. Stupid would be an understatement.
Rasmus Hoylund – 4.5
He returned to the starting lineup, but did absolutely nothing against what was statistically the worst defense in the league. From beginning to end, scenes of him getting frustrated due to lack of service are cut out. Only 14 touches.
replacement
anthony – 5
I tried to stretch it wide and make an impact in the drill.
Casemiro – 5
Like Anthony, he had a chance to equalize but it went straight to Jose Sa.
Christian Eriksen – 5
After replacing Ugarte, United looked much better with Eriksen in midfield.
Anthony came on as a substitute in the second half, but didn’t make a big difference in the game.
Amorim has a lot of work to do to resharpen United’s attack and strengthen their defence.
Alejandro Garnacho – 5
He was replaced by Diallo in the second half. I had a good chance, but I headed it in.
Joshua Zirkzee – 5
He was replaced by Hoylund with 10 minutes remaining. didn’t do anything,
manager
Ruben Amorim – 4
Yes, he will need patience and he didn’t have much help from his captain, but it was another lackluster game for United, with little sign of change since the Erik ten Hag era. Ta. Amorim has an all-powerful mission and he knows it.
