Whoopi Goldberg “American Idol” winner and country music star Carrie Underwood performs “America the Beautiful” at President Donald Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20 Amid the backlash over his decision, he showed support for Carrie Underwood on “The View” (via Entertainment Weekly). The EGOT winner has been outspoken against Trump over the years, but Goldberg said he supports Underwood even though he won’t perform or attend the inauguration.
“People act the way they do for whatever reason they do,” Goldberg said, noting that public figures have every right to run politics as they see fit. Goldberg said the same thing happened when MSNBC hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski met with Trump after he won the presidential election in November.
“I’m standing behind her,” Goldberg added of Underwood. “If I believe that I have the right to decide to perform somewhere, I believe that (she) has the same right. I have to support her. I’m not particularly interested. I don’t see it, but that’s just me.”
Sunny Hostin, Mr. Goldberg’s co-host on “The View,” echoed Mr. Goldberg, saying, “I think art is art and you have a right to perform wherever you want to perform,” adding that Underwood He added that he had no plans to watch the inauguration. We scheduled a spa day instead. ”
