Transfermarkt has confirmed a report by Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg that West Ham are monitoring the situation of young defender Finn Jertsch, who plays for FC Nürnberg in the Bundesliga 2nd Division 1. However, a potential transfer won’t happen this winter, but as early as next summer. Nuremberg are seeking a transfer fee of around £15 million (approximately €17.8 million) for the 18-year-old centre-back. Jertsch was previously linked with a move to Bundesliga clubs Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Mönchengladbach.
It remains to be seen whether Frankfurt and Gladbach will attempt to outbid West Ham. Of these two teams, Frankfurt has the better chance. Last summer, the Eagles paid €11 million to sign Can Uzun from Nuremberg. The deal remains a record for a club sale for a Bundesliga second-division team. There will be money in Frankfurt. The Bundesliga club are in talks with Man City to sell Omar Marmouche for €80 million.
How willing is Gelci to transfer? “He is very happy with Der Grub,” Nuremberg sporting director Olaf Rebbe told the Transfermarkt Done Deals podcast. “He is our number four and is already a leader despite being very young. We really enjoy working with him. What about a possible transfer? “At the moment It plays no role,” the Rebbe said. “He has improved a lot and his ceiling is very high,” Rebbe said of Gersch, calling him a player who will have a great career.
Under-17 World Cup winner Finn Gjelchy – what can he add to West Ham?
What can Jertsch add to West Ham United? Despite only being 18 years old, Jertsch has started all but two games for Nuremberg in the highly competitive Bundesliga this season. Jersch only missed two games, Rounds 7 and 8, due to a muscular issue. According to FBREF, Jertsch ranks in the 94th percentile of all Bundesliga second-division players with a progressive carry rate of 1.61 and a take-on completion rate of 0.81 in the 97th percentile.
Jertsch, a mainstay in the Germany squad that won the 2023 Under-17 World Cup, has also benefited from cooperation with head coach Miroslav Klose. A former world-class striker and Bayern youth coach, Klose has developed a reputation for ensuring his players learn the defensive side of the game.
“Defensively, I didn’t understand it at all,” Bayern star Jamal Musiala recently wrote in an article for The Players’ Tribune. “I just want to attack and deal with people, but he was hammering into me every day what I had to protect. I’m not going to lie, it was annoying at times. But (Klose ) has made me a more complete player.” Jertsch becomes the latest player to benefit from Klose’s tutelage, with a move to Premier League side West Ham potentially on the cards.
