TYLER, Texas — Students at the Texas College of Medicine at Tyler have partnered with Texas Health East to earn their certification by riding in an ambulance with certified paramedics and paramedics.
This qualification is optional for all medical students as part of their first year curriculum. It is designed to serve the East Texas community early in their medical journey while providing students with true hands-on experience.
Keri Dean, a student at Tyler Medical College in Utah, said it is helpful for students to learn about different perspectives when gaining knowledge about paramedics.
“If I had skipped this learning phase, I wouldn’t have had this perspective on paramedics and EMTs when I became a doctor in the future,” Dean said. “I think it’s really important to understand everyone’s role and learn how to work better with others in situations like this.”
