Citing two Israeli officials and sources with direct knowledge, Axios reported that the planned deployment is expected to begin in the coming days.
Two US companies, Safe Reach Solutions (SRS) and UG Solutions, operate checkpoints on the Netzarim Corridor, a major road south of Gaza City.
The Israeli military established the Nezzarim Corridor, which divides the Gaza Strip into two halves, during the genocidal war on the Strip to prevent displaced Palestinians from returning to the north.
The development was negotiated as part of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas brokered by the United States, Egypt and Qatar. It sought to resolve key sticking points around the movement of displaced Palestinians back into northern Gaza.
“The consortium’s role is to oversee, manage and protect key vehicle checkpoints along Salah al-Din Road and facilitate the safe return of displaced Palestinians to northern Gaza. “A source familiar with the matter claimed.”
U.S. contractors are expected to remain in Gaza until the end of the first phase of the deal, which took effect Sunday.
According to the agreement, Palestinians evacuated to the south could return to a seven-day truce.
