FAVOURITES TO BECOME NEW STOKE MANAGER
Sky Bet – 30 Dec
Mark Robins – 1/1
David Wagner – 4/1
Ryan Lowe – 6/1
Tony Mowbray – 11/1
Russell Martin – 14/1
The 1-0 win over Sunderland sees Stoke pick up a sixth win of their season, climbing up to 18th place, four points away from the danger zone at the foot of the Championship.
Stoke caretaker manager Ryan Shawcross told BBC Radio Stoke:
“The game plan was a risky one as I wanted the lads to go for it and get after Sunderland. I knew at times they would cut through us at times if we did, but second half I felt we had a right good 20 minutes where we probably didn’t get enough finishes or end product.
“Then to win it in the last minute, the feeling in the stadium was amazing and the sort of thing you dream of.
“With a few slight changes, I think there is a group in there who can move forward and be successful. The season has not been great but we spoke about a moment in the season where you have an upturn and hopefully that was it.
“[On whether he wants the job full time] I’ve had one game. I will concentrate on Burnley, if they need me to take it. I would love to know what is going to happen but you never know in football. We will see how it goes.”
“When there’s adversity, the Stoke fans are there for their club. The emotion at the end was amazing.”

Ryan Shawcross said per Sky Sports:
“I wanted us to press, I wanted us to get after the ball and I knew if we got it slightly wrong, they would cut through us, which they did because they’re a really good team.
“But I just felt them opportunities, like we did in the first 20 [minutes] with Cannon, I think Lewis [Koumas] had a chance, I understood the risk, but I’ve always been someone who would rather risk a win that just be boring.
“That was the plan and to be fair to the lads, with the day or so we’ve had, they were really receptive to what I asked and they executed it, for the majority, really well.
“The fans have always been great to me and when you give them something to look on and understand what you’re trying to do, they get behind you.”

@SCFC_CAL009: Robins yes pls not Wagner 😭😭😭
@Brandonnn129: Could you imagine Wagner getting the job then bringing in Pelach as he’s assistant. That would be the most Stoke thing ever.
@nathscfc: Robinssssss 🤝
@benarowley: Don’t know if there’s a name that would actually get me off my seat.
@WillM_94: Robins is literally a perfect fit. He just is a “Stoke manager”.
@StokieHH: Robins & Wagner. Happy with either 🙌🏻
@JoshTalksEFL: really hope mark robins stays well clear of that job, poison chalice, not worth ruining his reputation over after performing miracles at coventry
@Karl38839627: Didn’t Robins just reject us because he wanted a break from management? 😂 #Millwall
@stokaljona: Please please please not David Wagner
@Mozzaa92: Has to be Robins, if it wasn’t a pipe dream Cooper/Moyes scenario. Wagner I like, but the football would be horrendous. If he could sort the issues with Viveash, it would be a no-brainer.
@StokieTC: Very interesting, clearly going for experience and both of them are more ‘manager’ than ‘head coach’. Walters to step back a little?
@NCFCJames22: They paid compensation to appoint and then sacked Wagner’s assistant… To get Wagner who has been a free agent the whole time. I really don’t get what Stoke are meant to be doing 🤣
@NCFC_Dannyyy: What on earth are Stoke doing? If Pelach was a disaster why would go for someone whose philosophy is exactly the same as Pelach? Bizzare
@Gallagerlover63: Wouldnt really want Wagner
Stoke need a safe pair of hands but also someone to pick the club up by the scruff of its neck and realise their undoubted potential.
Mark Robins + Tony Mowbray would be my top targets.
In fact, they would be my top targets for West Brom too. #scfc #wba https://t.co/rBZ9L39W1M
