Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison is aiming to return from injury in next week’s north London derby against Arsenal.
The Brazil international has not played for Spurs since sustaining a hamstring injury in the 4-1 win against Aston Villa on November 3.
The 27-year-old suffered a calf problem early in the season and has been limited to just seven appearances in all competitions this season, six of which came off the bench.
Dominic Solanke, who signed a club record deal for Tottenham, has started 17 of Tottenham’s 20 Premier League games this season. Manager Ange Postecoglou spoke of the need to give Solanke a rest and on Tuesday gave a positive update on Richarlison ahead of the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool.
“He’s in training,” Postecoglou said. “Given what’s happened this year, the whole plan with him was to give him two full weeks of solid training. Next week will be the second week, but if he gets through that he should be fine.”
Asked to confirm exactly when Richarlison will be available, Postecoglou said: “Everything is going well and we hope that he will be available for Arsenal next week (January 15).”
Tottenham are exploring the possibility of signing Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani on loan, but their injury crisis is slowly starting to ease with Richarlison and Mikey Moore returning to training. There is.
‘Big boost for Spurs’
Analysis by Jay Harris
Richarlison’s return is a huge boost for Spurs, but they will need to manage him carefully. He has been plagued by injuries since joining Tottenham from Everton for £60m in July 2022 and will take time to reach full fitness. There were rumors that he would move to Saudi Arabia in the summer, but he decided to stay.
When Richarlison was available last season, there were small glimpses of his quality that suggested he could fit perfectly into Postecoglou’s system. He scored 8 goals in 9 league games from December 2023 to January 2024.
Richarlison primarily plays in the middle, but could provide Postecoglou with an option on the left to replace Son Heung-min and Timo Werner, who have underperformed this season.
