Winter weather warning issued in preparation for snow and rain in northeastern region
Just as millions of people prepare to travel ahead of the busy Thanksgiving holiday, the region could be hit by a powerful winter storm bringing snow, heavy rain and strong winds from the mid-Atlantic to the Northeast. A winter weather warning has been issued for the region.

Bomb cyclone leads to death toll in Seattle area
The effects of a rapidly developing “bomb cyclone” hit the Seattle area Tuesday night, with winds of 50 to 75 miles per hour toppling trees across the region, killing at least one person and injuring two others.
Others were injured, and power outages are ramping up across the region.

Hurricanes Helen and Milton are activated by climate change, report says
Hurricanes in the Atlantic Basin are on average active in the stronger category on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Anemometer than they would be without climate change and associated warming, according to new research released Wednesday.
The study, published by Climate Central, looked at hurricanes from 2019 to 2023 and found that their maximum wind speeds averaged 18 miles per hour compared to what would be expected without the effects of human-induced warming. Turns out it was expensive.

Video: Plane attempts to land in Seattle amid strong winds from bomb cyclone
Video recorded near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport shows planes attempting to land amid high winds from a powerful and deadly bomb cyclone.
More than 700,000 power outages were reported at one point Wednesday morning, and at least one person died as a result of the storm.
