Manager Ruben Amorim admitted after this afternoon’s 3-1 home defeat to Brighton that this was probably the “worst team in Manchester United’s history”.
United are second only to the Seagulls and are languishing in 13th place in the Premier League after suffering their sixth defeat in nine league games.
Brighton took the lead through Jankuba Minte and Bruno Fernandes equalized from the penalty spot, but Kaulo Mitoma and Georginio Rutter added more for Fabian Hürzeler’s side in the second half.

Amorim then tried to outline the scale of the task ahead for United, who are now closer to the relegation zone than to a top-four spot.
he said: “Imagine this for a Manchester United fan, imagine this for me.
“You get a new coach who is losing more than the previous coach. Imagine that. We have to survive this moment. I know that.
“We’re probably becoming the worst team Manchester United have ever had. I know you want the headlines, but I’m saying that because we have to admit it and change it. Now, here’s the headline.”
Difficult to explain – Amorim
United have only scored 11 points from Amorim in 11 games since he replaced Erik ten Hag in November.
The Portuguese added: “It’s hard to explain, but we have to acknowledge the situation rather than avoid it.
“Everyone here is underperforming no matter the circumstances. It’s unacceptable for any club in the Premier League, let alone Manchester United, to lose so many games. It’s a really difficult moment. we must continue.
“They’re better than us in many ways. We can’t be consistent. I’m not helping the players at the moment.
“It’s a tough moment. We have to recognize that we are in a very difficult situation.” is dropping.”
“The fans will suffer.”
Amorim said he would stick to his preferred method, even if it meant increased pain in the short term.
He told Sky Sports: I’m not going to change my view of the game, that’s clear.
“The players are going to suffer, the fans are going to suffer, it’s a shame. I have one way of doing it, but we have to live in this moment. Who knows what we’re going to do?” It’s very clear.”
