Kompany suffered his first Bundesliga defeat in a home match against Mainz last Saturday. Lee Jae-sung scored the opening goal in the 41st minute, doubling Mainz’s advantage with an hour remaining. Leroy Sane scored in the 87th minute, but it ultimately proved to be too late for the team.
Unfortunately for Bayern, defending champions Bayer Leverkusen took advantage of that mistake and defeated Augsburg 2-0, reducing their lead over leaders Bayern to four points. But while last weekend may have been a disappointment, Bayern still have one unbeaten record to defend, having avoided defeat in all six of their home Bundesliga games this season. In fact, Kompany’s side have won five of their six league games in Munich, including their last four top-flight home games against Stuttgart, Union Berlin, Augsburg and Heidenheim.
Bayern were also successful in their recent home game against RB Leipzig, with Harry Kane scoring the winning goal in stoppage time at the Allianz Arena in February.
team news
Kane and Alphonso Davies are all set to return to the squad, but it is unclear whether the pair will feature in Friday’s contest. Meanwhile, Kompany has been unable to call up the likes of Manuel Neuer, Sacha Boii, Hiroki Ito, Kingsley Coman, Joao Parinha and Tarek Buchmann.
RB Leipzig
Leipzig have won eight, drawn three and lost three of their 14 league games, and are in fourth place, six points behind Bayern. Marco Rose’s side recently went winless in four league games, but got their Bundesliga campaign back on track with a 2-0 win away to Holstein Kiel.
He also achieved success against Eintracht Frankfurt at the Red Bull Arena on Sunday. After Benjamin Šeško’s opening goal was canceled out by Nathaniel Braun, Reus Openda scored the winning goal to seal a 2-1 victory and put Leipzig level on points with third-placed Frankfurt.
Die Roten Bullen will now travel for a difficult away game against Bayern Munich. The visiting team has won just one of their last eight away games against Bayern in the Bundesliga (D2, L5), with that only win coming in May 2023. They will hope to change that statistic on Friday and become the third winning team. He will be on the top league stage at the Allianz Arena in 2024. To date, only two teams have beaten Bayern in away league matches: Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund. calendar year.
