U.S. Army University Press –
This monograph is based on archival materials from the U.S. Army Heritage Education Center and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, numerous published primary sources, and a range of secondary sources on Chinese relief from June 1900 to the present. Provides an overview of the expedition. August release. The considerations range from geopolitics to strategy to the tactical level of war. The U.S. military collaborated with a coalition of navies and armies from multiple countries to form the first contingency, expeditionary, multinational coalition in U.S. military history. In the face of numerous obstacles posed by enemy forces, the environment, and within the informal coalition, American forces succeeded in liberating the besieged legation. Although the nature of war has evolved since 1900, students of war must see through the disparities that seem to separate the Chinese relief expedition from the historical present.
