General Iraj Masjedi, speaking at an event held in Tehran on Wednesday to mark the fifth anniversary of Soleimani’s martyrdom, described the late commander as a global symbol of the serious fight against terrorism.
He pointed out that in January 2020, US President Donald Trump made the biggest contribution to the global tide of terrorism by ordering a military strike to assassinate Iraq’s General Soleimani.
Masjedi said President Trump’s public admission that he ordered Soleimani’s assassination violates all legal, international, moral and human rights principles.
He also paid tribute to the late Iranian commander as a savior of innocent victims of crimes committed by Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in the region.
General Soleimani, a former commander of the Revolutionary Guard’s Quds Force, was killed in a US drone strike ordered by former President Donald Trump near Baghdad International Airport, killing his fellow Iraqi trench mate Abu Mahdi al-Mahdi, deputy commander of the Popular Mobilization Forces. He was assassinated along with Muhandis. January 3, 2020.
Both commanders were highly popular as they played key roles in eliminating Daesh terrorist organizations in the region, particularly in Iraq and Syria.
