Percy Tau has embarked on a new chapter in his career after leaving Al Ahly to sign with Qatar SC on an initial short-term deal until the end of the season.
The Bafana Bafana international was unpopular with Red Eagles head coach Marcel Koller and was limited to starting just five games in all competitions in the opening four months of the 2024-25 season.
Tau was given just one minute in the CAF Champions League match against CR Beroizdad on January 3, and was completely substituted for Koller’s side in their 2-0 win over Smouha in the Egyptian Premier League four days later. It was removed.
The 30-year-old winger has been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs, while Pitso Mosimane was also said to be interested in reuniting with his former Iranian player Esteghlal.
However, Tau decided to try his luck in the Qatar Stars League and signed King on a six-month contract with an option to extend his stay at the Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium for a further 12 months if they avoid relegation. It is reported that he will be joining.
Qatar SC announced the former Mamelodi Sundowns star’s arrival on their social media accounts on Monday with the caption: “Percy Tau is Qatari.”
Tau is hoping to revive his international career after missing out on success for South Africa in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, with his last appearance coming in a 1-1 draw against Nigeria on 7 June 2024. .
