islamabad:
The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Committee (SUPARCO) has announced cooperation on a groundbreaking lunar exploration mission in partnership with China’s Chang’e 8 mission, scheduled to launch in 2028.
This cooperation marks an important milestone for Pakistan’s space program as SUPARCO’s indigenous spacecraft will be part of the lunar exploration mission.
SUPARCO’s spacecraft weighs about 35 kilograms and will participate in China’s Chang’e 8 mission, which is part of the larger International Lunar Research Station (ILRS) project. The spacecraft will land on the moon’s south pole, which is known for its difficult terrain and potential scientific discoveries. The mission aims to explore the Moon’s surface, conduct scientific research, and test innovative technologies for future lunar and planetary exploration.
The mission will include a series of scientific experiments, including studying the lunar soil, mapping the lunar surface, and testing new technologies for a sustainable human presence on the moon.
Equipped with state-of-the-art scientific instruments, SUPARCO’s spacecraft will play a key role in collecting data that could pave the way for future lunar exploration missions.
This cooperation with China highlights the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries and their shared vision for space exploration.
