Ronnie O’Sullivan has withdrawn from the upcoming Masters, citing medical reasons.
The announcement came just days after the tournament opener, when reigning champion O’Sullivan was due to start his match against John Higgins on Sunday.
The seven-time world champion won a record eighth Masters title after defeating Ali Carter 10-7 at Alexandra Palace in January last year in a heated battle of words between the two.
However, a statement from the World Snooker Tour said he would be replaced by 17th seed Neil Robertson, who missed out on the 16-man spot by the narrowest of margins after missing the Masters for health reasons.
“Neil Robertson will replace Ronnie O’Sullivan in the draw for the next Johnston’s Paint Masters,” the statement began.
Last year’s champion O’Sullivan was scheduled to face John Higgins in the opening round on Sunday afternoon, but withdrew for medical reasons.
