Manager Fabrizio Romano has revealed who at Manchester United is to blame for the delay in agreeing a new contract for Koby Mainu during his relationship with Chelsea.
Mainu was previously touted as one of United’s ‘untouchable’ stars alongside Alejandro Garnacho, but the club’s dire financial situation now means any player will have to pay a price.
Chelsea have jumped to the front of the queue to sign Mainu, who is said to be “unsatisfied” with the initial terms offered by INEOS during new contract negotiations.
Mainu currently earns just £20,000 a week, significantly less than Casemiro’s Wedge’s £350,000 a week, and is reported to want an annual salary of around £200,000, reflecting his importance to the team. are.
United intend to listen to a £100m offer for Mainu but insist they want to keep him at the club, with Romano set to join Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Dan Ashworth as sporting director. By extension, it claims that its short tenure has led to delays in negotiations.
“They really want to negotiate a contract with Koby Mainu,” Romano said on his YouTube channel. “Manchester United will therefore look to extend Amad Diallo’s contract until 2030 and then push to sign Coby Mainu as well.
“Amorim said in a press conference: “We want to keep our best players and we want to keep our academy players. I’m very happy with Coby and how he’s progressed.”
“But now it will be time for Man United to try to reach an agreement with the player.”

“Let’s not forget that there have been changes to the Manchester United board,” Romano continued. “We have a new owner, we have a new director, Dan Ashworth left, and now we have Jason Wilcox (at the helm).
“There are so many changes and in some cases we may have to start over some points of the conversation. However, Manchester United are working on a new contract for Koby Mainu.”
United manager Ruben Amorim was asked about the futures of Maynou and Alejandro Garnacho ahead of Sunday’s match between Manchester United and Arsenal, and insisted he wanted to keep the promising duo at the club.
He said: “I really love the players. I want to keep the players, especially the talented players,” he said.
“This is a special moment for this club, a difficult moment, but of course I’m really happy for Coby and the way he’s developing and also for Garna. Our thoughts are: It’s always about keeping the best players and the players we have developed for this club.
“We know the position the club is in at the moment and we’ll see. I’m very happy and I like our players, especially the academy players.”
