Spain’s Clasico rivals will reunite for the 2025 Supercopa de España final in Jeddah on Sunday night.
After Barcelona defeated Athletic Club 2-0 in the first semi-final on Wednesday night, Real Madrid finally got the job done on the night despite being led until the opening hours by Mallorca. After Jude Bellingham’s opening goal, Madrid won 3-0, setting up a repeat of the 2024 final.
The two sides met back-to-back in the Supercopa de Espana final, with Madrid currently the holders after defeating Barça 4-1 in Riyadh. In 2023, Xavi’s Blaugrana put in a great performance and won 3-1.
Sunday’s finalists are set to be in a fierce battle for this season’s La Liga season, but the contest could give the winner a huge psychological advantage. However, Atlético Madrid also defeated Barça before Christmas, so they are competitive enough and will be fresh when La Liga resumes.

Madrid lined up as expected for the semi-final against Mallorca, but Ancelotti was encouraged to rotate more than his opponents, given that the team played 24 hours after Barcelona defeated Athletic Club. It might happen.
If the Italians choose to reshuffle, Arda Güler, Fran Garcia, Dani Ceballos and Brahim Diaz will most likely be included in the squad. But Carlette could be burnt out in Sunday’s final.
David Alaba was a substitute on Thursday and Aurelien Choameny, who suffered a head injury against Mallorca, could be called up here. Luka Modric missed the last game due to illness and is unlikely to play.
Real Madrid’s projected lineup against Barcelona (4-2-3-1): Courtois. Vazquez, Choameni, Rudiger, Mendy. Valverde, Camavinga. Bellingham, Rodrigo. Vinicius, Mbappe.

Barcelona could sign Ronald Araujo in Saudi Arabia, but after Wednesday’s clean sheet, Flick is unlikely to break up his centre-back pairing for Sunday’s final.
Dani Olmo has been granted provisional permission to play as his initial registration with the club expires at the end of 2024, but the Spaniard will not be involved here. Gabi was used in a more advanced role against Athletic Club and gave an outstanding performance.
Flick’s side entered the new year healthier with Araujo and Andreas Christenen back in action, but long-term absentee Marc-Andre ter Stegen is still missing.
Expected lineup for Barcelona vs. Real Madrid (4-2-3-1): Pena. Kunde, Kvarsi, Martinez, Balde. Casado, Pedri. Yamal, Fermin, Rafinha. Lewandowski.
The previous three winners of this competition have all advanced through La Liga, but this time the battle for the top is likely to be even fiercer. Perhaps the boost they received from their victory in Jeddah will ultimately give them an edge.
Both managers are unlikely to be replaced after their semi-final victory, so the final could be a close one and the game could be decided on the bench.
Madrid are looking for revenge after a heavy home defeat in October’s Clasico, but despite Barça’s poor performance on Wednesday, Madrid should have the advantage here. In important situations where silver medals are at stake, Madrid always get the job done. They are already targeting a third trophy in the 2024/25 season.
