Widespread showers finally began to fall this evening, giving Portland its first measurable rain of the weekend. There were scattered showers and drizzle both yesterday evening and today, but both days were lighter than expected. We hope you enjoyed warmer than average temperatures this weekend. Early today and yesterday evening, atmospheric conditions were not very good in places due to prescribed burns in the Coast Range. Some of that smoke trickled down into the valley. As the southerly wind picks up, some of the smoke will dissipate and should be completely clear by morning.
A cold front approaches and moves overland during the night. As a result, rain will increase and briefly become heavier around 1-2 a.m., before returning to scattered showers during the morning commute. There will be breezy southerly winds in the 20-30 mph range. Frequent rain (mixed with occasional sunshine) is the story behind this system Monday. There’s a slight chance of thunder and lightning with a shower or two. As usual with this pattern, a funnel cloud may also appear somewhere.
Portland forecast (kptv)
Rain will taper off after Tuesday, and a new Pacific weather system will arrive Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. This will be followed by another round of showers on Thursday and Friday. The third system arrives next Sunday. We get some rain, but we don’t have a particularly stormy weather pattern.
