AMMAN, January 12 – Jordan’s Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation has announced that it has begun accepting applications for the 19th Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Children’s Literature.
In a statement released today, the prize’s scientific committee revealed that this year’s theme is travel literature in the narrative genre aimed at children aged nine and over. The deadline for submitting recommendation documents is the end of March.
This award has specific eligibility requirements. Entrants must be of Arab nationality or descent, over the age of 18, and the work must be written in accessible modern standard Arabic. Must be an original work and may not be adapted from or translated from another language. Additionally, it must not have previously been published in a newspaper, magazine, website, or printed publication. Additionally, your work must not have been submitted to or previously won any other awards.
Stories are intended for readers ages 9 and up and must be between 5,000 and 6,000 words. Only one work will be accepted.
A panel of experts in the field appointed by the Scientific Committee will evaluate submissions based on specific criteria, including innovation, language, style, content, originality, and creativity.
The Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Children’s Literature is awarded annually. The winners will receive a certificate recognizing their achievements, a trophy with the award’s name and logo, and the first place will receive a cash prize of 10,000 Jordanian dinars, the second place a prize of 5,000 dinars, and the third place a prize of 3,000 dinars.
