Chinese researchers reveal link between physical activity, longevity and aging
BEIJING, Jan. 12 (QNA) – Chinese researchers recently uncovered a link between physical activity, sedentary behavior, and their effects on longevity and accelerated aging, leading to improved health and longevity. backs up the advice to “sit less and move more.”
Researchers from Sun Yat-sen University selected 20,924 Chinese participants aged 50 and older from the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study and collected data on their physical activity and sedentary behavior through a questionnaire.
When they analyzed the relationship between physical activity and longevity, they found that compared to low levels of physical activity, moderate physical activity was associated with a higher likelihood of longevity, increasing the odds by 56%. Specifically, the frequency, duration, and intensity of moderate physical activity are positively correlated with the probability of longevity.
In contrast, vigorous physical activity does not provide the same benefits and in some cases shows an inverse relationship.
When researchers investigated the relationship between physical activity and accelerated aging, they found that higher frequency of moderate physical activity was associated with a reduced risk of accelerated aging by more than five years. . Conversely, prolonged periods of intense physical activity increase the risk of accelerated aging by more than five years.
Researchers examined the relationship between physical activity and accelerated aging and found that higher frequency of moderate physical activity was associated with a lower risk of accelerated aging over five years.
In summary, physical activity has protective effects on longevity and accelerated aging, and some of these effects are mediated by lipids. On the other hand, sedentary behavior has a negative effect on accelerated aging. (QNA)
