Winter storm in southern U.S. causes more than 3,000 flight cancellations
WASHINGTON, January 11 (QNA) – U.S. airlines have canceled more than 3,000 flights and delayed many others as a result of the winter storm that hit the southern United States.
Delta Air Lines reported in a statement that severe weather at Georgia’s Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport closed all five runways for more than two hours, disrupting numerous flights.
Delta Air Lines canceled approximately 1,100 flights and diverted flights across its network due to freezing rain that continued into Friday evening.
Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (Texas) and Charlotte Douglas International Airport (North Carolina) were also affected by the severe weather, resulting in the cancellation of more than 1,200 flights to and from these airports.
A winter storm pummeled the southeastern United States earlier this week, killing at least five people and canceling flights for hundreds.
Temperatures dropped to -18 degrees Celsius in some areas, leaving tens of thousands of people without power. (QNA)
