Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani said that the visit to Tehran took place within the framework of expanding cooperation and communication between the two countries.
He said the two countries seek to strengthen such cooperation to achieve their mutual goals of security, prosperity and growth.
He continued that good talks were held with the President of Iran and his ministers regarding bilateral relations in various aspects, including economic, development, social, cultural and religious fields.
The Iraqi Prime Minister added that a bilateral meeting will be held between the ministers of the two countries to discuss the most important economic issues, joint projects and cooperation to ensure Iraq’s gas and electricity needs.
He said the two countries have jointly initiated plans and projects and are committed to their full implementation.
He added that expanding relations between Iran and Iraq is of great importance.
Mr. Sudani noted that it is important to develop these relationships at the regional level in order to achieve the interests of both countries and create opportunities to realize the interests of all countries in the region.
The Iraqi Prime Minister emphasized that economic development and partnership in the region are a pathway and guarantee for security and stability for the entire region.
He stressed that Iraq’s position regarding current developments in the region is firm.
Iraq condemns the war crimes and genocide currently being committed against Palestinians in Gaza, it added.
He criticized the international community for not fulfilling its obligations regarding crimes in Gaza.
He said the international community has failed in its responsibility to stop crimes in Gaza that threaten security and peace in the region and the world.
“The time has come for everyone to realize that the only way to achieve stability in the region is to end the devastating war in Gaza and secure the right of Palestinians to self-determination based on an independent Palestinian state. ” he said.
He underlined Iraq’s resolute stance in supporting efforts to maintain calm and ceasefire, and its readiness to contribute to the reconstruction of Lebanon and Gaza.
Regarding the development of Syria, he said that stability in Syria is the key to stability in the region. He called on the people of Syria to support a comprehensive political solution that preserves the country’s territorial integrity and deters foreign interference, as such interference undoubtedly undermines the interests of the Syrian people. Mr. Al-Sudani stressed respect for the will of the Syrian people, saying that his country will respect the will of the Syrian people and support any decisions of the Syrian people regarding the political system and constitution, absent foreign intervention.
“We have full confidence in the recognition and determination of the Syrian people to protect their sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said.
He also declared Iraq’s readiness to work with all parties to achieve stability in Syria.
The Iraqi Prime Minister firmly opposed the use of threats and hostile rhetoric against other countries. This approach will lead to further crises and tensions that will ultimately affect the entire region.
“We call on everyone to respect international law and abide by the principles of the United Nations, and to build trust and ensure peace and security for all in the region, through comprehensive cooperation between the countries of the region. We call on all parties to engage in a dialogue.”
He pointed out that after Iraq defeated ISIL terrorism, the country adopted clear policies that ensured that the Iraqi government assumed full power and the rule of law prevailed in the country.
Sudani concluded that Iraq remains committed to pursuing noble goals both domestically and regionally.
He emphasized that Iraq adheres to this policy of independence, strives to spread peace throughout the region, and operates on the basis of mutual understanding and dialogue between nations.
Mr. Al Sudani said that the visit is definitely an important step towards achieving peace and prosperity between the two countries and the region as a whole.
