Alejandro Garnacho has emerged as one of the forwards linked with a move away from Manchester United, along with Marcus Rashford. Napoli have shown great interest in the Argentine winger, while their Premier League rivals are also in the race to sign him.
Garnacho has struggled to find consistent playing time under new manager Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system and has played less time than he did under former manager Erik ten Hag. Furthermore, a report in the Guardian suggests that Manchester United may be willing to sell the academy graduate to comply with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSR), with the talented winger Several clubs have expressed interest.
According to Loic Tanzi of L’Equipe, Chelsea have added Alejandro Garnacho to their transfer list. With Mykhailo Mudryk suspended and Christopher Nkunku rumored to be leaving London, Garnacho is an attractive option to strengthen Chelsea’s left flank.
Despite Chelsea’s interest, Napoli appear to have the upper hand in the race to sign Garnacho. The Blues have yet to make a formal approach, but Napoli have identified the 20-year-old as their top target to replace star winger Hviča Kvaratschelia, who is reportedly set to join Paris Saint-Germain for around $70 million.
However, Manchester United are reluctant to let Garnacho go unless an attractive offer is made. The Red Devils are reportedly seeking a transfer fee in excess of $70 million, a valuation that could be blocked by both Napoli and Chelsea. Meanwhile, Chelsea have named Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens as a possible replacement should the deal for Garnacho fall through.
Garnacho’s role under Ruben Amorim
Despite being touted as one of United’s most promising players, Garnacho’s start to life under Amorim was far from ideal. After featuring in the Portuguese manager’s first six games, he was unexpectedly left out of the high-profile Manchester derby against City, fueling speculation about his future at Old Trafford.
But then Garnacho’s fortunes took a turn for the better. Unlike Rashford, whose future at United remains uncertain, the Argentine winger is back in Amorim’s plans. Ahead of the game against Southampton, Amorim praised Garnacho’s progress.
“He’s finding the best way to play in this system. He’s improving in training. He started the last game. We’ll see tomorrow. He’s changed the way he looks at himself. I think so,” said the United manager.
Garnacho overcame a difficult start to the season and was named in the starting XI for United’s final two games against Arsenal and Southampton. Amorim also stressed the importance of Garnacho in his post-match comments, saying, “We need players like Amad and Ale Garnacho to create space.” Amorim subtly suggested that the Argentine’s future may still lie at Old Trafford.
