Mahdi Sobani told reporters on Thursday in Kapan, the capital of Armenia’s Syunik province, that an agreement had been reached to hold a meeting on public transport between Iran, Armenia and India.
The Iranian ambassador noted that further coordination is needed to set a date for the talks.
He said cooperation in the transport sector would be beneficial to the three countries, and stressed his “positive outlook” on trilateral exchanges.
Sobani also said that Iran is reluctant to use the term “Zangezur” for the corridor that aims to connect the Republic of Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan without Armenian checkpoints, adding that any geopolitical changes in the region Iran also reiterated its opposition.
However, he said Iran supports the removal of border barriers under Armenia’s national and territorial sovereignty.
The ambassador said that relations between Iran and Armenia are clear and based on certain principles, adding that the two neighbors have a long history of peaceful relations.
“The bilateral relationship is based on the sustainable interests of both countries, and no one can go against the interests of both countries,” the envoy said.
