Majid Takht Ravanshi made this remark in a recent interview with Italy’s Radio Radicale.
“We are a party to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT),” a senior Iranian diplomat said, adding that “nuclear weapons have no place in our country’s defense principles.”
He also stressed that “numerous reports from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) show that Iran is 100% fulfilling its commitments.”
He went on to say that “the Trump administration’s maximum pressure continued during the Biden administration,” apparently after former President Donald Trump’s administration imposed a policy on Iran in May 2018 after it illegally withdrew from the nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA. He cited the massive illegal sanctions imposed.
“Over the years, our position has been consistent and transparent,” Takut Ravanshi said.
“We are ready to discuss within the framework of the JCPOA,” he said.
The Deputy Foreign Minister also emphasized that the United States is no longer a participant in the JCPOA.
He went on to talk about the situation in Syria, saying, “It’s up to the Syrian people to decide the type of government and how they want to run their country.”
Regarding the Israeli regime’s threats against Iran, he said, “The Israeli regime knows the consequences of any aggression against Iran.”
