Nicole Kidman may be staying busy with lots of bookings, but that doesn’t mean things are that easy for her. In today’s difficult entertainment industry climate, she has just as much trouble selling a project, let alone actually producing it.
“Everything is so hard right now. Everything, actually. I mean, it might not be ‘Deadpool,’ but there’s nothing that’s like, ‘Oh my god.’ yes. This one. Green light, let’s go. ‘Or maybe it’s just something I do,” Kidman said in a recent interview for Vanity Fair’s Hollywood issue. “I think that’s the essence of what we’re dealing with right now. Things are shrinking in terms of putting on shows and making movies. It certainly feels that way. Most of the people in the industry feel that way. I know the crew feels that way. I know that the writers feel that way.”
Despite all this turmoil, Kidman has been in the industry long enough to know that every job is her last job and she has to get back up and try again.
“You’re just along for the ride. It’s such a roller coaster of ups and downs, and I just say, ‘Stay strong.'” I don’t know what the future holds for my children, so I try to help them. That’s what I’m trying to teach you. “Be patient, work at it, and when your kids take a chance, jump in and try something,” Kidman said. “The worst thing that can happen is to fail. It can be humiliating, but at least you don’t think, ‘Oh, I should have tried that. I regret not doing that.’ is. ”
Kidman believes it’s best to find strong allies who motivate you to do the hard work, rather than letting fear get the better of you. To get through tough times, “I think you have to choose not to spread yourself too thin in order to collaborate with the right people, share your resources, and keep the energy and drive to keep moving forward.” ” she said. But it was always difficult. I mean, I started when I was 14, so I’ve seen a lot of stuff now. ”
Kidman is also putting her institutional knowledge to good use by giving female filmmakers the freedom to use her talents. At the beginning of the interview, she said: “I support all the women at different ages and different stages of their careers to put their weight behind them and think, ‘I’m here, I’m here.’ I am ready if you will dispose of it. ”
