In another NHL Trade Talk Recap (Jan. 6), Elias Pettersson spoke about the trade rumors that surround him and the Vancouver Canucks. Meanwhile, the Edmonton Oilers are moving their forwards around a lot. Is this a good idea, or is the coach risking frustrating the top stars who are used to playing with each other? Top NHL Trade Talk Recap Story:
Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin recently stated that Elias Pettersson has a lot more hard work to do after signing a $92.8-million contract extension. He then wouldn’t rule out a possible trade, which sparked speculation and rumors that the team is seriously considering their options.
Responding to the criticism, Pettersson acknowledged the challenge, saying, “I know I can do better. I will be the first one to say it, and I never think things will get easier.” With his contract secured, Pettersson knows the time to deliver is now. What does he think about the trade talk?

Are the Oilers Making the Right Move Switch Up Forwards So Often?
During Sunday night’s Got Yer’ Back podcast, former Oiler Jason Strudwick proposed a theory that head coach Kris Knoblauch switches up his forward lines often to keep the players on their toes. Rob Brown understood the idea on paper but wondered how well that would go over with the stars on the team if the coach kept it up.
Brown asked about how Zach Hyman might feel being regularly moved off of Connor McDavid’s line. He added, “Do you think it’s new and exciting for Adam Henrique to go from being a third-line center down to a fourth-line center?” How long with the Oilers coach keep doing this?
Are the Montreal Canadiens No Longer Selling?
Dennis Bernstein of The Fourth Period appeared on TSN’s Melnick in the Afternoon and suggested that the Montreal Canadiens might change their approach to the 2025 NHL trade deadline. Firmly in the playoff mix, Bernstein believes the Canadiens may hold off on trades to give the team a chance to compete.
Will the Canadiens only sell if the bottom falls out or teams come with offers that are too good to turn down?
