Sen. Andy Kim (D-N.J.) shared his frustration with constituents about drones that appeared to be flying over the state during an observation in Hunterdon County Thursday night, where the activity was reported.
“It’s hard for people to feel safe when unexplained drones are flying overhead and we’re not getting the answers we need from a federal investigation,” Kim said in a press release Friday morning.
“This situation has been going on for weeks and I, like everyone else, am frustrated by the lack of information and details. That’s why I came to see for myself. But I’m grateful that the local police took me there.”
He and local law enforcement searched the area for about two hours in search of answers, according to his office.
Kim’s efforts on the ground include several letters sent to federal agencies, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.), Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), and Sen. Cory Booker (N.Y.). It was done a day later. ), requested assistance from the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the FBI.
“People deserve answers,” Kim said in the release.
“We don’t need conspiracy theories or speculation. We need assurances that the people responsible for keeping us safe are working on this issue, and communications that make the public feel that the government is taking this issue seriously. I need a line.”
The FBI is investigating drone sightings, but the Pentagon says there is “no evidence” that the unidentified drones are the work of a foreign entity or “adversary.”
