The Montreal Canadiens have taken the convenient route to handle their roster situation on their California trip, recalling forward Owen Beck and defender Logan Mailloux from the Laval Rocket on Saturday.

The move will mean both will be out of the lineup for Laval’s final game before the AHL All-Star break at Place Bell on Saturday afternoon, but both were already headed to California for the AHL’s All-Star Classic to be held at the home of the Coachella Valley Firebirds in Palm Desert, California.
The Canadiens play Sunday afternoon, Tuesday night, and Thursday night meaning that Mailloux and Beck would likely miss the AHL Skills Competition held Sunday night, but be able to be sent down for Monday’s game before rejoining the NHL team in San Jose.
It is also possible that the Canadiens, who already had 12 forwards and six defenders without Beck and Mailloux will allow them to skip Sunday’s game to take part in the festivities. There is the question of potential injuries keeping players out of Sunday’s game as Alexandre Carrier, Jake Evans, and David Savard all did not practice on Saturday.
Either way, this provides the Canadiens with additional insurance while far away from home, and it gives two players an extended stay in California.
