Meghan Markle’s new Netflix trailer for her upcoming cooking series has been savaged by one American A-lister with a damning three-word remark.
The trailer for “With Love, Meghan” was released by Netflix on Thursday ahead of the release date on January 15, showing a variety of clips of the Duchess of Sussex, 43, as she cooks and hosts alongside famous celebrity friends.
While many people across the globe were left excited for the eight-episode series following the trailer’s launch yesterday, one celebrity did not feel the same way.
Meghan McCain, daughter of Republican Senator John McCain and an influential blogger, took to X to complain about the upcoming show, which she described in a brutal three-word remark as being “utterly tone deaf”.
McCain, who was originally a fan of Meghan, also said that the duchess should have made a show about helping people rather than helping her “ego”.
She wrote: “I was originally a Meghan Markle supporter, I thought she was cool, stylish and refreshing.
“Like the rest of the world my opinion changed when she disrespected the royal family. Now that she wants to be American again instead of British aristocracy what she seems to forget is Americans want real, raw, uncensored.
“All of this even in the trailer is highly curated, produced and out of touch. There have been 2 terror attacks in 2 days, major wars raging and Americans can’t pay for groceries. We are a country in rage, uncertainty and intensity right now.
“This concept is ill advised. I would have told her to do a show helping bring fresh food to food deserts in low income neighborhoods. Do something to help people instead of your ego. This is why the world doesn’t like you, nothing else. Just completely and utterly tone deaf to the moment.”
The post on X was met with over 1,000 comments, with followers of Meghan McCain divided over how they feel about the upcoming show. One person wrote: “Very well said, Meghan. Yes she is living a reality that many can’t.”
Another said: “It’s like she’s trying to be the next American Martha Stewart.”
Fans of the duchess were also quick to jump to her defence on the post, disagreeing with the views put forward by McCain. One person wrote: “I think she has come forth with joy and wonder at a time when we all desperately need it. I want to sprinkle color on donuts and enjoy life while I can. Don’t pathologize taking time to dwell in beauty and companionship – we all need more of that right now.”
Another said: “Speak for yourself. We love her and find her kind, intelligent, authentic, fashionable and ultra cool! If you don’t like her, don’t watch her.”
The series is set to air on Netflix on January 15.
