Anabel Maldonado, a fashion psychologist and founder of PSYKHE, explains that this myth is tied to the concept of “surrounded cognition.” This theory claims that the way we dress affects our psychological processes, thoughts, and emotions. Two researchers at Northwestern University, Hajo Adam and Adam Galinsky, found that research showed that people wearing white coats were more attentive during a series of tasks than those wearing white coats. Later, I created this concept. The reason was related to the previous belief that doctors were more focused.
“There’s a more metaphysical interpretation to the superstition, that colors can magically make things happen, but I think our ancestors just missed the middle step. If we think about it and believe it, we will see it. The fact that we’re half way there is what we all want,” Maldonado said, adding that some women who grew up in Latin culture wear red on New Year’s Eve to have a good relationship. He said some of them were wearing underwear.
