Manchester United are reportedly “in talks” with Lecce to sign Patrick Dorg, according to transfer expert David Ornstein.
Following a disappointing start to the season, the Red Devils opted to sack Erik ten Hag, hoping to turn things around under the guidance of a new coach.
Ruben Amorim arrived from Sporting CP, but so far things have not improved at all. Under him, they have won just two of their nine Premier League games, resulting in them languishing in 13th place in the table.
Following last night’s defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, Amorim said this was Man United’s worst team in the club’s history. The club’s leaders therefore appear to have begun accelerating their reinforcements this month in a bid to hand the Portuguese manager the tools he needs to turn things around in the second half of this term.
Writing in The Athletic, Ornstein said United are prioritizing signing a new LWB and are already “in talks” with Lecce to lure Dorg to Old Trafford. Although no agreement has yet been reached between the two countries, dialogue is progressing smoothly.
Dorg joins Man United
Meanwhile, manager Fabrizio Romano says Milos Kerkes and Nuno Mendes are also on United’s wish list to strengthen the left wing-back position, but Dorgu is the more affordable option. Amorim’s side are therefore considering signing him, with Lecce hoping to pay around £34 million. The 20-year-old is “keen” to take the next step in his career and move to Old Trafford.
Dorg, who joined the Italians ahead of last season, played as a rotation player last season and has established himself as a key player this season.
The youngster still has four-and-a-half years left on his current contract with Lecce, so Lecce are in a good position to hold on to that reputation.
Dorg is a left-handed left-back who can also play at wing-back or in a more advanced position. Plus, he’s comfortable on the other side.
The Dane is a strong and dynamic player with great potential. So it would be a shrewd signing for the Premier League’s all-time champions to sign him.
