According to The Athletic, Manchester City are considering adding midfield reinforcements in January.
The Premier League champions have found themselves in a difficult situation after losing Rodri to a serious knee injury in September. They are exploring several options in the winter market, including Juventus’ Douglas Luiz, who was with City from 2017 to 2019.
The 26-year-old Brazil international joined Juve from Aston Villa last summer but has struggled to make regular appearances, making just 16 appearances so far. City are considering signing Luiz on loan with no obligation to buy until the end of this season, while Juventus are currently hoping to sell him outright or loan him with an obligation to buy.
For City to sign Luiz, Juve would need to change their stance before the February 3rd transfer deadline. Luiz is not City’s only target, but he remains a consideration should they decide to strengthen their midfield. City are also in the process of signing centre-back Abdukkodir Kusanov from Lens, Vitor Reis from Palmeiras and striker Omar Marmouche from Eintracht Frankfurt. Juventus’ interest in left-back Andrea Cambiaso is unlikely to proceed during this period.
