Barcelona president Joan Laporta says his critics are “destabilizing” the club after many opposition parties called for his resignation over the Dani Olmo and Pau Victor registration scandal. He accused her of trying to make him do it.
Olmo and Victor were granted temporary permission to play on January 8, after Barcelona’s registration request was initially rejected by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and La Liga.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Laporta said after 10 different supporters’ groups, led by former Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font, accused him of “negligence” over his handling of the incident. He rejected calls for his resignation.
“They did not succeed,” said Laporta, who is in charge until 2026. “They tried to eliminate us, but we worked hard and never gave up until we got what we wanted. 1:1 rule, and above all we registered Pau Victor and Dani Olmo. That’s what you do.”
He added:
💬 “Can anyone believe that I could resign because of the decisions of La Liga and RFEF?
“I am very disappointed in the actions of those who had the ambition to be president of this club. It was not to be on the side of Laporta, but on the side of FC Barcelona.
“It was a transcendent moment (for the club) in the middle of the competition, but they destabilized the team.”
