LeBron James revealed to reporters Wednesday night that his family was forced to evacuate their home in Brentwood due to ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.
James added that the family is currently staying in a hotel, but their home was not damaged.
“Personally, it’s a day off,” James told reporters. “Personally, my family, we’ve been evacuating since Thursday night, so we’ve been in the hotel since we got back from Dallas. So, just figuring it out. But for each other. Stay strong. That’s obviously the most important thing.”
The Lakers star said family friends were left homeless in the fires that have swept through the city since January 7.
“I’m so happy that my family, my wife, my three kids and my mom are here. “Everyone is safe, but it just went off.”

As of early Thursday afternoon, the Los Angeles wildfires had burned more than 40,000 acres, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
The Eaton Fire is now 55% contained, while the Palisades Fire, which caused the most damage, is only 22% contained.
The impact hits close to home for James’ Lakers, as head coach JJ Redick lost his home in the Palisades fire.
Other players in the NBA have also been affected by the fires, as Los Angeles native Russell Westbrook said close friends and family members were left homeless.
