The Iranian president made the remarks at a meeting of Russian economic activists in Moscow on Friday.
Earlier in the day, he and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement for long-term cooperation between the two countries, Press TV reported.
Speaking at a joint press conference after the signing event, Mr. Pezeshkian said that the agreement will open a new chapter in bilateral relations in all fields, especially in the economic field.
He added, “This document, created based on the interests of both countries, can paint a positive picture of the path of cooperation between Iran and Russia.”
Mr. Pezeshkian emphasized that operationalizing the agreement is essential, praising it as heralding a “new chapter in bilateral relations.”
The president also predicted that the upcoming Caspian Sea Summit would further expand ties.
President Putin approved a proposal submitted by the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the signing of the agreement through a decree last September.
The Decree said it would be “expedient” to sign such an agreement, but did not specify when it was expected to be concluded.
The incident came a day after Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu visited Iran’s capital Tehran and met with senior Iranian officials, including Mr. Pezeshkian.
Shoigu stressed that in his meeting with the chief executive, Putin asked him to convey the message to Iranian officials that Russia’s position on cooperation with Iran on regional issues has not changed.
Meanwhile, Mr. Pezeshkian assured the Russian security chief that relations between Russia and Iran will continue to expand along a permanent and permanent path. He argued that promoting cooperation between the two countries would undermine the effectiveness of sanctions and unfair practices imposed on both countries.
