Latto has shared a new version of her track “Blick Sum” featuring Playboi Carti. The song, originally off Latto’s third LP, Sugar Honey Iced Tea, arrived alongside a music video directed by Hidji World and Gunner Stahl.
In the clip, the rappers pair up onscreen, with Playboi Carti joining Latto on the second chorus and adding his own verse midway through the swagger-laden track.
Latto dropped Sugar Honey Iced Tea in August. The effort featured collaborations with Megan Thee Stallion, Ciara, Coco Jones, Young Nudy, Flo Milli, and Teezo Touchdown. The rapper followed the release with a 22-date tour last fall. She is currently nominated for a Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance for her single “Big Mama.”
Rolling Stone celebrated Latto’s latest LP in a three-and-a-half star review, writing, “Throughout the album, Latto shows she’s more than a sex symbol, even if she enjoys playing the role. She is the whole package — charismatic, dexterous, and long prepared to make music that sticks.”
The rapper recently told Ebony that she’s been focused on driving her own career in recent years.
“I feel like my whole career has been that – growing pains – and people telling me what I should and shouldn’t do,” she said. “So many times, I would let them get in my head, like, ‘This not popping off fast enough’ or this person surpassed me. But you just really do have to trust God’s plan and God’s timing because, you know, I’m so grateful for my journey now. I feel like me having this slow and steady incline has been more beneficial to me than just blowing up super fast and then setting this high tone that I’m forever gonna be chasing in my career. You know what I’m saying? I’m grateful for the baby steps.”
Carti, meanwhile, shared single “All Red” in September (on his birthday). Fans have been eagerly awaiting his forthcoming third album, I Am Music, although it has yet to get a release date. He performed several tracks from the LP during his set at Rolling Loud in December.
