Jude Blanchett, a leading expert on China’s political landscape, has been appointed the founding director of the Randland Center for China Studies and the Tang Chair of the nonpartisan nonprofit Randland China Research.
The new RAND China Research Center will expand the scope of Rand’s existing research on China, with a particular focus on building expertise in China’s domestic politics and decision-making. Domestic issues such as social, economic, demographic, and environmental issues. Other non-military aspects of competition are also included, such as foreign relations and investments in science and technology.
“Jude’s vision and deep expertise on the inner workings of Chinese politics are exactly what we need to support the growth of the new Center for China Studies and improve U.S. and allied policymakers’ understanding of China. It will be of great help,” said the RAND Corporation director. CEO Jason Matheny. “As competition with China intensifies, the need for comprehensive and objective analysis becomes increasingly important, and I look forward to working with Jude to raise the bar for China-related research.”
