Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren will take oath as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand on November 26.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by key leaders of the opposition Indian bloc, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. It is expected to be a grand event with many in attendance. is likely to attend, India Today reported.
Hemant Soren will reportedly meet Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar at 4 pm on Sunday to formally make his case for forming the government, JMM sources said.
Return of Hemant Soren
In early 2024, Hemant Soren resigned as chief minister and was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on corruption charges related to mining leases. After spending several months in jail, he was granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court.
“We have passed the test of democracy in Jharkhand,” Hemant Soren said at a press conference on Saturday, November 23, the day the results were announced, about the JMM-led alliance’s poll results.
Hemant Soren contested the election from Barkhait seat and his Jharkhand Mukti Morcha party defeated Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Gamliel Hembrom by securing a total of 95,612 votes. Barkhite, considered a stronghold of the JMM, also witnessed a victory for Soren in 2019, when he won 25,740 votes over his rival Simon Malto of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Hemant Soren’s party secured 34 seats, 16 Congress seats, 4 RJD seats, and 2 CPI-ML seats, paving the way for the Indian bloc alliance to win a second consecutive term in power.
The JMM alliance includes the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, the Indian National Congress (Congress), the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist). The NDA comprises the Bharatiya Janata Party, All Jharkhand Students’ Union (AJSU), Janata Dal (Unified) and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).
