Radio presenter Jamie Theakston revealed that he was flung from his motorcycle on his first day back at the office following cancer treatment.
The 54-year-old underwent four months of gruelling treatment after he was diagnosed with stage 1 laryngeal cancer in September 2024 which involved three separate surgeries.
After his triumphant announcement last week that he was officially cancer-free, he reunited with Heart presenters JK and Amanda Holden for their morning show on Friday.
On Monday, January 20, he had his official first show back and reflected on admitted the journey there was not all smooth-sailing, literally.
On air, he told listeners he was ejected from his bicycle on his commute to the station.
‘If Mr Bean had his first day back at work after four months, this is probably how it might have gone,’ he joked, explaining that it was an extra lock on the vehicle which had ‘thrown him’.
Luckily, he made it out of the potentially disastrous accident unscathed.
The show also saw Jamie thanks his friends, family and fans for all their support during this ordeal as he listened to heartfelt clips of people’s well-wishes.
‘What an amazing man you are. You really fought very hard, Jamie, you’ve kept your sense of humour, which is the most important thing, I think,’ Amanda told him.
‘And isn’t it wonderful? It’s a terrible thing to go through, but it’s a wonderful thing to see how many people love you.’
On Friday, he celebrated his return to Heart with a joyous message to fans.
‘‘Today is the fourth month anniversary of my cancer diagnosis, so it’s been four months, and I’ve had enough of hospitals and operations, and it’s just lovely to be back, and I’ve got some news for you, because I can tell you that as of today, I’m cancer free!’ he said during the show.
He went to get a check-up after being told by concerned listeners that his voice sounded different but hadn’t thought anything of it.
‘I fully intended to be told that I had a sore throat, and when I was told, “Oh, it’s probably cancer” just, literally, I just didn’t even know what to say.
‘I mean, it just blew my mind, so then it’s all about statistics,’ he explained.
