Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh and his Syrian counterpart Lieutenant General Ali Mahmoud Abbas held talks on promoting defense cooperation between the two countries.
The leaders also emphasized the important role of regional countries in ensuring security and called for the withdrawal of foreign troops from the region.
The two ministers weighed plans for cooperation between Iran and Syria in the fight against terrorism, and also reviewed regional developments and the situation on the resistance front.
Iran’s Defense Minister, who arrived in Damascus on Saturday night, emphasized Syria’s place in Iran’s foreign policy to reporters.
General Aziz Nasirzadeh praised Syria’s valuable experience in the war on terror and said Syria is a key pillar of the axis of resistance.
He also said that Iran is ready to support friendly countries in accordance with the recommendations of Islamic revolutionary leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
Iran’s defense minister is also scheduled to meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
