Sanjeev Sharma, an alumnus of IIT Roorkee, is currently trending on social media thanks to his LinkedIn profile. He currently holds the position of Chief Engineer at Elon Musk’s SpaceX, and many hail him as an inspiration and role model across various platforms.
Mr. Sharma’s outstanding educational and professional achievements have attracted much attention. After graduating from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, Sharma’s career began with a successful stint in the Indian Railways. He started as a divisional mechanical engineer and worked for 11 years, eventually rising to the position of deputy chief mechanical engineer.

In pursuit of further career growth, Sharma earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder. He then joined Seagate Technology in 2008 as a staff mechanical engineer and was later promoted to senior mechanical engineer. During my five years at Seagate, I also earned a master’s degree in technology management from the University of Minnesota.
After working at Seagate, Sharma joined SpaceX as a mechanics engineer, contributing to the company’s revolutionary space development.
In 2018, he left SpaceX to join Matternet Inc., a pioneering developer of commercial drone delivery systems. At Matternet, he led vehicle engineering and then technology. In 2022, he returned to SpaceX as chief engineer. Mr. Sharma recently contributed his extensive experience to SpaceX’s Starship project, setting a new milestone in space exploration.
Today, Sharma continues to innovate space technology at SpaceX headquarters in California.
