The best thing to start a new year with is not goal-setting or aspirational self-improvement, but watching Awesome Games Done Quick. AGDQ is one of speedrunning’s premier events, a week of high-skill gameplay and an exciting time for gamers to raise money for charity. The organization’s winter beneficiary is the Cancer Prevention Foundation, which runs programs aimed at stopping cancer before it starts, with an emphasis on early detection and prevention.
The fun begins on January 6th and there’s a lot to see. GDQ events highlight a great mix of new and retro games across almost every genre. Many platformers are expected, like Astro Bot, one of our favorite new games in 2024. The game will run on January 6th at 6:30pm ET.

Wednesday is full of good stuff, including New Super Mario Bros. Wii with an unusual category called “Any % While Playing Piano” that you can watch at 4:43 PM ET. The beloved and hilarious Awful Block also kicks off with a truly awful game, Superman 64, on January 8th at 11:24 PM ET. And with Elden Ring hosting another interesting music category, the Boss Showcase of Saxophone Techniques, it looks like the whole final day is going to be great. Groovy!
Be sure to pay attention to your weekly schedule. Your local time zone will be displayed and updated if there are delays or sudden world record discrepancies. All the action will be on the Games Done Quick Twitch channel, embedded below. The pre-show begins at 11:30 a.m. ET on January 6th, and the stream will be live 24/7 until the end of the final showtime.
