Trade winds will dominate this week’s weather forecast. High pressure north of the island chain continues to grow and dominate wind flow, bringing refreshing trade winds across the state. This high pressure system will increase in strength as the week progresses, with winds expected to pick up from the east-northeast by Wednesday. Stronger winds are expected to persist into Wednesday and beyond, reaching speeds of more than 32 km/h. Wind gusts could exceed 30 mph. A few showers are possible this week, but most of it will remain in the windward and mauka regions. Surfing is also booming this week. Two northwest swells are approaching the archipelago. The first of those waves will arrive today, bringing near warning waves to north and west facing coasts. A second, even bigger swell will arrive on Wednesday. A high surf advisory could be issued by midweek for north and west facing coasts. High waves and heavy trading are expected later this week, with high surf and choppy conditions also expected on east-facing coasts. Minor coastal flooding is possible in low lying areas of the east coast.
