GARDES (Pajwouk): More than 330 public schools in southeastern Paktia province are facing a shortage of 1,100 teachers, officials announced on Tuesday.
Director of Education Maulavi Abdul Qayyum told Pajwok Afghanistan News that the management structure for teachers and services in Paktia was provided 13 years ago and needed to be updated as the number of enrolled students increased over time. .
He said Gardez and the district’s 335 schools currently face a shortage of 1,100 teachers and 600 service staff.
Some students complained of a lack of teachers.
Mohibullah, a student at Norashah Khan School in Gardez’s Meran district, said the school lacked teachers and textbooks.
“Our schools lack teachers and textbooks. We want the government to address these issues,” he said.
Akhtar Jan, a resident of Zadran district, said there is a shortage of teachers at Central District High School and many other schools.
He called on authorities to appoint qualified teachers to ensure quality education in schools.
State education officials say the issue of teacher and book shortages will be addressed in the new school year.
