The Governor has decided to evacuate four more houses on the upper side of Road 100 in Nybyen. In addition, there is now a traffic ban on Road 100 between Longyearbyen School and the intersection at Road 106.
This evening there was a new meeting between the Governor, Skred AS, Longyearbyen Local Council and NVE about the avalanche danger in Longyearbyen. The last few hours have seen a lot of snowfall and wind, and based on advice from Skred AS, the Governor has decided to evacuate four more houses on the upper side of Road 100 and also introduce a traffic ban on parts of Road 100.
The houses being evacuated are Road 100 nos. 1, 3, 5 and 7. These are in addition to the buildings that were evacuated earlier today.
A traffic ban has been introduced on Road 100 between Longyearbyen School and up to the intersection at Road 106. There is currently no need to evacuate the houses on the lower side of Road 100. If you are going up to Nybyen, you must now use Road 300 and Road 106.
There is still a traffic ban on the snowmobile trail on the east side (upper side) of Road 100 from the school and up along Gruvefjellet to and including Nybyen (Road 100 no. 13), as well as on Road 300 from Huset and up to Sverdrupbyen.
The Governor continues to have ongoing contact with Skred AS, the Local Council and NVE. New meetings will be held if the weather situation changes further.
