Everton have announced the signing of young midfielder Emma Watson on loan from Manchester United for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
Watson will move to Merseyside after missing his debut season at United with an anterior cruciate ligament injury. The midfielder suffered a minor problem early on this season which meant she had to wait even longer to make her debut, but coincidentally, the new team defeated Everton 2-0 in the group stages of the Subway Women’s League Cup. It was a match against.
The 18-year-old had to be patient as senior minutes were difficult to come by, but he scored his first goal against Championship side Newcastle United towards the end of the calendar year.
Despite his age, Watson has already earned a place in the Scottish national team. The midfielder featured in the UEFA Euro 2025 qualifiers against Hungary and Finland, coming off the bench in all four games. Watson has made eight appearances for Scotland since making his debut in March 2023.
The Toffees have secured the signature of an impressive prospect in what has already been an eventful transfer window for Merseyside clubs. Brian Sorensen’s side have added Kelly Gago and Martina Fernandes to their squad, and there are reports that Hayley Rudd is also set to make a move.
Following his arrival, Watson expressed his excitement about joining the club, saying on Everton’s official website: “It’s definitely the right place for me and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Everton return to action this weekend when they host Tottenham Hotspur in the all-WSL fourth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup at Walton Hall Park.
