Honorable President, Dear Brother, Minister Badr Abdellatti
First of all, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to you and the Arab Republic of Egypt for chairing the D8 Economic Cooperation Organization in 2024 and 2025.
I would like to thank the great people and the Egyptian government for their warm hospitality to me and my delegation. It’s always a pleasure to visit the historic and beautiful city of Cairo.
I would also like to thank the Republic of Bangladesh for its able chairmanship of the D8 over the past few years.
Dear Ministers, His Excellency Imam
Honorable D8 Secretary-General,
Ladies and gentlemen,
We gather here to prepare for a successful D-8 summit at a time when the Islamic world is still suffering from the unprecedented atrocities committed by the Zionist regime over the past 15 months in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria. Masu. D8 was one of the first groups of countries to condemn Israel’s attack on Gaza in October 2023. Subsequently, an extraordinary meeting of the D8 Ministerial Council on Gaza was held in Istanbul in June 2024. The D8 Special Summit on the Situation in Palestine and Lebanon, to be held here tomorrow, will continue to strengthen our commitment to fraternity, peace, dialogue, justice and the rule of law in the region and the world at large, as envisaged in this agreement. It will be the latest demonstration of our brotherly nations’ commitment. D8 Charter.
The international community has shamefully failed to stop the Zionist regime’s acts of aggression, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. This is primarily due to the US government’s political, military, intelligence, and financial support for Israel. Tomorrow’s D8 special summit is expected to send a strong message to the world for an immediate end to Israeli aggression and violations in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria. The Zionist regime and its allies shall be held accountable for their actions and shall establish a permanent ceasefire in Gaza to allow the Gaza population unimpeded access to humanitarian assistance. The Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination shall be realized. Attempts by Israel to annex land shall be prevented. Israeli forces shall immediately withdraw from the occupied territories of Gaza, Lebanon and Syria. And last but not least, the D8 countries stand ready to assist Palestine and Lebanon in addressing the economic and related challenges and problems arising from the current situation.
Mr. Chairman,
Since today is not a regular board meeting, the statement will not discuss cooperation issues within D8 in detail. The draft Cairo Declaration, finalized by the D8 Committee on December 16, offers promising prospects for enhanced cooperation between the two countries within the existing D8 framework for cooperation in areas of common interest. We believe that D8 will further focus on ways and means to make our economy and people more resilient to possible future shocks. In this respect, new technologies not only bring unprecedented opportunities, but also challenges and risks.
Finally, I would like to thank Mr. Chairman, my talented team, the D8 Secretary-General and his team of experts, and all the D8 committee members for their excellent work so far. I hope that today’s meeting was a success and that tomorrow’s summit will be a promising one.
Thank you for your attention.
