Delhi Elections 2025: The Election Commission on January 9 directed Delhi’s chief election officer to look into the Aam Aadmi Party’s allegations. AAP has written to the Election Commissioner days before the Vidhan Sabha polls are scheduled to take place in the national capital. AAP has raised concerns over alleged violation of election laws and model code of conduct by BJP candidate Parvesh Verma, as well as discrepancies in the Delhi electoral roll.
In a reply to the letter, Election Commission chief secretary Ajoy Kumar said, “The delegation has violated the Model Code of Conduct against Shri Parvesh Verma, a prospective candidate of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP). “I have raised suspicions.”
The letter dated January 9 added, “They have also raised allegations of additions and deletions in the electoral rolls of New Delhi Assembly constituencies.”
AAP complaint
In its letter, AAP accused Parvesh Verma of starting a campaign called ‘Har Ghar Naukri’ on January 8, days before the polls. According to Arvind Kejriwal’s political party, the move is against the guidelines of the Medical Consultation Committee (MCC) and is also a violation of Section 123 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
Terming the opposition’s activities in violation of its model code of conduct, the AAP said the Parvesh Verma-led campaign included distributing posters and pamphlets and setting up ground camps.
“A job fair to be held on January 15 has also been announced. This is a clear attempt to lure voters and influence the electoral process.” Verma also said that Job cards are being distributed to voters,” the letter said.
Accusing the BJP of placating voters, the party claimed that the distribution of barcoded job cards was illegal and in violation of the Election Commission’s orders. AAP has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of distributing funds and said, “Rs 1,100 per voter is being given to women under the fake ‘Ladri Behen’ scheme. Personal identification details are recorded.”
